Honor Your Mother

Are you looking for a unique way to honor the women in your life this Mother’s Day? Is there a grander display of love than one made for the world to see?

During the entire month of May, NPEN is honoring mothers and raising funds. NPEN is celebrating all the wonderful mothers and women in our community – past, present, and future — each story of love, inspiration, and kindness will help bring us closer to reaching our $2,500 goal.

Find out how you can submit your story about your mother, becoming a mother, or about another mother-like figure in your life who has inspired you in some way to be the person you are today.

In honor of Kathleen DiRosaria, my mother, my light:

There are many fond memories that I have, none as vivid as the face of my mother.  She has moved me to create art, poetry, and life in reflection of her beauty and kindness.  Images of her hair flowing around my body, encasing my face as she kisses me to sleep, dance behind my fallen eyelids nightly.  I recall flowers, and smoke, and the smell of cardamom rich on the summer breeze.  I remember what her hands felt like on my back as she cradled me in her lap.  I long to recreate that feeling of love and security for my own children. In all my impatience, and anger, and obligation, I stumble – but she won’t let me fall.

In honor of Debbie Hopkins, whose heart held me for years before her arms:

My mother is unique, wise, generous, and confident in who she is. She has struggled with a variety of health issues for her entire life, and while that has no doubt shaped who she is, she has remained a source of strength for her family. Read more here.

In Honor of my Mama, Susan Robinson

My mother has always been an amazing support to me. When I was little, she comforted and showed me so much love. No matter what happened, I knew I was loved and cared for. Her arms were the safest and best place to be. As I grew older, she allowed me to grow into the woman I am today. Choices I made were sometimes good, and sometimes bad, but through it all, she supported me and caught me when I fell. She listens, she loves, and she is ALWAYS there for me. Thank you, Mama.

In Honor of my Mother, Maxine

Once when I was a child I came home from school and was talking to my Mom about fire safety. I remember she told me that she “would run through fire for us.” It was then that I understood how much she loved us. This understanding set me up for a kind of life where I felt a sense of security and grounding that only occurs when a parent loves their child this deeply. As I grew up, I didn’t always appreciate fully this kind of love and took for granted that everyone had a Mother like mine. Although I understood as a child how much she loved us, I didn’t full realize until more recently how special it is to be loved this purely. To be born to Mother who would literally run through fire for you is the first and one of the greatest gifts one could ever receive. From the bottom of my heart, Thank-you Mom. I am deeply grateful. We love you. XO

Happy Mother’s Day
